I traveled through Korea a lot. Once I went to study to be a translator and instead of picking English, which I have been learning my whole life, I picked Korean. Today I am a professional guide and teacher: I know a lot about the culture of the country, and its peculiarities, and I teach the language to others.
There are many things that people who are fascinated by Korea want to try. One of these must-haves is to try on a traditional costume. It’s called hanbok and has a lot of colors, each of which symbolizes something. There’s a palace in Seoul where visitors can rent this particular outfit and enter the palace freely. I guess anyone who considers themselves a fan of the culture has at least one commemorative picture wearing it. Anyone, except me!
I often think about doing it, about taking a picture. It’s very important to me, and I believe that I will fulfill my wish when I go back to Korea again. I feel empty because sometimes people do it, attaching no importance. And I myself, being so immersed in this culture, still didn’t do it.
I don’t know when I’ll have the chance, but I really want to see myself wearing a hanbok one day. Like on this portrait.
